MUNRO JACKETS FAQS

What is the Munro V2 designed for?

Munro V2 is a fully featured 3‑layer mountain shell designed for year‑round hillwalking and foul‑weather days, with a focus on storm protection and durability rather than ultralight minimalism.

How waterproof is it?

The jacket uses PROT3X 3‑layer fabric with a 20,000 mm hydrostatic head and fully taped seams for excellent wet‑weather protection in prolonged rain and high winds.

Is the jacket breathable?

Yes. The membrane is rated to 15,000 g/m²/24 h and is supported by long pit‑zips and a two‑way front zip, so you can dump heat quickly on steep climbs or when working hard.

How much does it weigh?

A size Large weighs around 556g, sitting in the “robust mountain shell” category rather than an ultralight packable shell.

Is the hood helmet‑compatible?

Yes. The wired, three‑way adjustable hood is designed to work over a climbing or mountaineering helmet while still cinching down securely when you’re not wearing one.

What pockets and features does it have?

The Munro V2 includes raised harness‑friendly hand pockets, a two‑way YKK water‑resistant front zip, long pit‑zips, an adjustable wired hood, and hem and cuff adjustment for a secure seal in bad weather.

How does the sizing and fit work?

The jacket is cut as a mountain shell with space for mid‑layers, so it will feel roomier than a casual rain jacket; some broader builds may prefer to size up for extra shoulder and chest room.

Is there a women’s version?

Currently Munro V2 is only offered in this fit; feedback from female hillwalkers has highlighted demand for a women’s‑specific equivalent, which is being reviewed for future development.

Is it suitable for summer use and fast‑and‑light trips?

You can use it year‑round, but it really excels in cooler, wetter, windier conditions; for very warm weather or fast‑and‑light running and backpacking, a lighter shell may feel more comfortable.

How sustainable is the jacket?

Munro V2 uses a PFC‑free durable water repellent on its PROT3X 3‑layer fabric, avoiding traditional long‑chain PFCs while maintaining strong waterproof performance; regular cleaning and PFC‑free re‑proofing will also extend its life.

How should I care for and re‑proof it?

Wash the jacket periodically with a technical‑garment cleaner and re‑proof using a PFC‑free spray‑on or wash‑in treatment ], for example Nikwax, following the product instructions, to maintain water beading and breathability.

Reviews

A really high quality product

"Love it. I'm very impressed with this jacket which feels very high quality and able to withstand the worst weather. It looks good too with big pockets both sides and one inside. Worth getting one size up from your usual."

Richard N. (5/5)

Fabulous jacket

"I have had this jacket for just over a year now and have held back reviewing it until I'd had the chance to test it thoroughly in wet conditions. I have been extremely pleased with it's waterproofing qualities I've found it to be very good indeed. The hood is super in the wet and is well designed to prevent the rain but has is adjustable enough to allow decent vision without having to remove it while on the trail. The fit is good with enough room for extra layers beneath if required. The pockets are a good size and start higher up than usual giving greater depth and make losing something from them a little more difficult. There is a small inner pocket which is handy. The pit zip are large and easily brought into use . The only thing missing is perhaps a map pocket , but hey I can live with that."

James C. (5/5)

Brilliant All Rounder Jacket

"This is a perfect jacket for year round use and is a perfect fit. I was surprised with the level of thought put into the design including pit zips. Well done Highlander."

Gary S. (5/5)

Excellent jacket, totally waterproof, kept

"Excellent jacket, totally waterproof, kept the worst of the Scottish rain out."

Martin D. (5/5)

Great waterproof coat

"This raincoat is great, it has been waterproof in all kinds of weather throughout the winter (unlike lots of other “waterproof”coats) when the rest of me has been wet through. Another bonus is the hood staying up in high winds when the coat is fully zipped up. Plenty of room for layering underneath to keep warm. All in all really pleased, more than I would normally pay but worth the extra spend."

Neil P. (5/5)

Munro here we go!

"Amazing Jacket! I love going up the Scottish mountain's and this does such a great job of keeping me warm, dry and protected from the elements. I'm 5' 11" medium-small build and this jacket fits great! What I also like about it is the colour and minimalist design."

Theo K. (5/5)

Well thought out design

"This immediately feels like a second skin. Or a third, if you are wearing a fleece underneath. The key part of the design is ease of movement. Lots of ventilation and deep pockets. Totally fit for purpose."

Gerard E. (5/5)

Outstanding

"Stunning quality, very well made and definitely looking forward to putting it through its paces"

Richard C. (5/5)

New jacket

"It's a little longer than most which is great and the fit is good. Have used it a few times now in the wet and is certainly dry on the inside"

Dave (5/5)

Great jacket, but zip can be temperamental.

"A very comfortable, waterproof and windproof jacket at a good price. I've tested it in bad weather. I bought a size larger than normal to accommodate thicker clothing and this was a good decision. My only niggle is the zip. It's very temperamental in getting the two parts to engage so you can pull the zip up. Personally I wish it was just a single zip."

John C. (4/5)
