Environmental & Social Responsibility

Since we founded Highlander in the mid-1980’s, our guiding principle has been to design and produce fit for purpose outdoor gear that lets everyone enjoy the outdoors, whatever their activities. Back in the day, the main focus for outdoor gear was on quality and affordability however the world has changed significantly since then and an important focus now is on environment and sustainability factors.

We’ve held the ISO 14001 Environmental Accreditation for 10 years now, ensuring the standards we set ourselves for minimising our impact on the environment has always been a top priority.

Some changes have been implemented on a large scale.

For example, our insulated jackets are now 100% animal free and our TECLOFT® synthetic insulation is made from 100% recycled plastic bottles. We’re also using ever-decreasing amounts of single-use plastics in packaging and bagging and our products are delivered to us using slower sea freight instead of higher polluting air freight.

Looking to the future

We have a deep love and respect for the outdoors and we’re very privileged to work in an industry that allows us to help others enjoy the beauty and freedom of the natural world. That privilege also means it’s our responsibility to do as much as we can to protect our world by constantly examining our actions to help define sustainable, measurable business practices.
